Historic Ruling: Monsanto Ordered to Pay $289m in Damages to Terminally Ill Cancer Patient
Friday, August 10, 2015
Jurors in a San Francisco court case award $289 million in damages to a terminally ill cancer patient Dewayne Johnson, who was covered in lesions. Lawyers said he got cancer from Monsanto’s Roundup weedkiller, which he was regularly exposed to in his job as a school groundskeeper.
Dewayne Johnson’s victory on Friday will likely set a precedent for thousands of other similar cancer cases against Monsanto, claiming it’s famous herbicide Roundup, which contains the chemical glyphosate, causes non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
